I wonder what thoughts go through the mind of a bird?
Recently I observed this beautiful King Parrot, seemingly contemplating its next move.
From tall Gum Trees to sweet Wattle to the creeping Hardenbergia: there are sights and scents everywhere.
Let’s not forget the sounds: screeching Cockatoos, singing magpies, squawking lorikeets.
The bush is alive!
I have no doubts birds know exactly what they’re doing. I kept a budgie at one time who knew exactly when I took coins out of my pocket. He’d fly down and take them on at a time to slot through the top of is cage.If he wanted my attention which was elsewhere at the time he’d come to the arm of the chair and tip an item onto the floor, keys- then look at me, still no attention, lighter- then look at me. Everything would go until I spoke to him. If it wasn’t enough he’d come and bite my ear.
He drank coke from the tin and enjoyed sitting on the table next to my plate helping himself. He was a character and I freely admit I cried like baby when he died. It semed more permissable to show emotion for a pet than for a family member.
Hi, David, we used to have two budgies but unfortunately one died earlier this year. It was terribly sad to lose Albert (who was, in fact, a female). Her surviving friend, Victoria, can count to three, and loves me to push on her swing higher and higher, while she clings on without a qualm, it seems.
Your budgie sounded like a remarkable character. No wonder you were upset when he passed on.
Pets hold a special place in our lives, and are all the more endearing when they entertain us!
