Down by the Riverside…

Down by the riverside…

That’s where these sulphur-crested  cockatoos are often to be found.

These flocks certainly make their presence felt, both aurally and visually.

A wonderful bonus for living near bushland in a Sydney suburb!!

Can I pitch my tent there? Are the birds wary of humans or can they be hand fed? It would be lovely to establish a relationship with a group like that.

      Hi, David!
      No tents allowed.
The cockatoos are fairly tolerant of humans, but I haven’t seen them ever being hand-fed. Magpies, yes. Rainbow Lorikeets will flock around and accept scattered crumbs; likewise Kookaburras love picnic snacks (especially meat) and Noisy Miners cadge for bread and biscuit

I always love looking at these little guys. They always appear to be so cute and cheeky.
