What Next? A Magpie Contemplates…

Magpie in Contemplation

What next?

Is this Australian Magpie absorbed in contemplation?

What better place for thought than high in a gum-tree…

Maggie has chosen well, for just below is an area popular with picnickers. Many of these people seem more than happy to toss a tasty bite or two to the birds: Magpies included.

Enjoy!

Chicki and Kelvin: Best Friends Forever

Chicki and Kelvin

Chicki and Kelvin

Hi, everyone!

Once again, Mummy has pointed me in the direction of the computer and told me to write.

This time, I’ll share my secret. I’m *in love*.

His name is Kelvin. He’s tall, dark and ruggedly handsome. Mature and discerning. What more could I wish for?

And I think he knows my feelings.

We have a lot in common. We both had an insecure start in life. Through different eras, as youngsters we lived in big Animal Shelters waiting for our Mums to adopt us. Weren’t we lucky to be chosen?

Between you and me, I’m sure that Kelvin likes me. We rendevous quite often by the water. Always we sit together, and I’m proud to be seen by his side. Sometimes, our Mums take us walking together. I’ve even ventured up to my elbows in the wide river to be nearer to my idol. He loves to  dog-paddle : out in the open water, too. Isn’t he brave?

And just a few days ago, he and I curled up  close while my Mummy had a swim. He is so warm and cuddly.

Isn’t love grand?

That Looks Tasty!

That looks tasty!

I’m guessing that this is running through the mind of this engaging Kookaburra.

Kookas are renowned for enjoying a sample or two of picnickers’ fare. This one is no exception.

Enjoy this taste of the Australian bushland!

The View from the Baths

The View from the Baths

The View from the Baths

I’ve often showed you photographs of the baths. So far, all these shots have been taken from dry land.

Today I’m about to show you one of the many views from within the water.

This is just a glimpse of what swimmers and others  who dare to set foot in the baths can see. Unfortunately I haven’t yet taken a photograph of one of my favourite sights: a skyward view of a delightful gum tree that overhangs the steps into the water. Perhaps some other time…

Meanwhile, here’s a sight familiar to me as a regular swimmer there.

Enjoy!

A Heron in the Rain…

Heron in the Rain

A Heron in the rain…

The beauty of our local bushland park in suburban Sydney is endless, and certainly not confined to sunny weather.

Sometimes I think that the most beautiful sights are to found in the rain, gentle or otherwise.

There is a simple, touching charm in these times: and one of my favourite spots to observe is on the promenade where the river and its surrounds can be closely watched.

I hope you enjoy this shot of a White-faced Heron as it searches for breakfast on the shores of the baths.

A Silver Gull in Contemplation

A silver gull in contemplation…

That’s my impression.

There’s plenty to contemplate. The water, ever tempting; the sky in its limitless scope, the shores with their shells, rocks and (sometimes) tiny  crabs, the people (generous or otherwise), other birds of many species…the list goes on.

Oh, to have so much in life, and the freedom to fly at will to wherever its whim takes it…

Third Time Lucky: It’s Chicki Again!

Concentrate, concentrate: Sasha gets ready

Concentrate, concentrate: Sasha gets ready

Sasha in action!

Sasha in action!

Hi, everyone!

Mummy tells me that *my* posts have been *loved*!

Between you and me, I think she’s jealous. 🙂

Nevertheless, I guess her sense of propriety has taken over, ’cause she has put me at the helm once again.

Hmm…

In the spirit of generosity I’ve decided to share the limelight with my second-best doggy friend, Sasha.

First, let me tell you I look up to Sasha. (Come to think of it, I look up to most of my furry friends.)

But Sasha is different.  She is– what’s the word?–gifted!

Seemingly without effort, she can do what I can only dream of: leap high into the air! And, simultaneously,  catch a flying saucer in her mouth!

She’s  whispered to me that she’s in training for the Canine Olympics.

Gold-medal material if ever I saw it!

Such agility! Such style!

Am I on sniffing terms with the Canine World Champion  Frisbee Catcher?

I’ll bet my last Schmacko on it!
