What’s this? A clothes-line mystery…
This intriguing bird visited our yard a few weeks ago, and landed on our Hills Hoist.
I’m guessing that it’s a Butcher Bird but I’m willing, indeed happy, to be enlightened. It’s one I rarely see around here, though now and again we spot one in the park.
Any thoughts?

A quite ugly name for a quite pretty bird. From the back he seems to have a resemblance to a woodpecker. You may have to explain a Hill’s Hoist to us at this end of the world.

I agree, David! I’m pretty sure that’s what it is, though.
A ‘Hills Hoist’ is an iconic Australian clothes line 🙂 It goes around and around in the wind.

No idea what it is, sweet little thing though 🙂
It’s like a baby Kookaburra, but it isn’t 🙂
My guess is a butcher bird, but I am not a bird expert – well maybe just on Flamingo dancing…
🙂 I agree.
Not a bird expert either but enjoy seeing all your lovely creatures
So glad you do, Odie!
Definitely a butcherbird. We have them around here. They have a nice song.
Thanks, Linda! I hope it visits again.
