The race is on…and the female duck is in the lead, hotly pursued by her suitor.
Maybe they’ve already made the commitment. Maybe she’s still testing him out. Who knows?
All I can see it the intense concentration that the male of the species is displaying on his beloved. 🙂

If I were a duck, these days the only way I’d catch her is if she swam backwards.

Good question!
And he’s taking a crafty drink for Dutch courage lol 😀
🙂 Does he need it?
Depends on whether or not she’s having a bad feather day 😀

You made a memory surface. In another life before my marriage in 2004 I lived in my home town of Nashville, NC (AKA the Original Nashville). I lived in this big 2 story home with a huge Magnolia tree in the back yard. About even with the upstairs window was a hole near a limb and a duck would lay her eggs in there and when hatched the little ones would jump the terrifying distance to the ground safely and I can still remember numerous times seeing them trailing behind her often wondering if they all made it to adulthood since it was quite a journey from my house to any water. They sure were cute.
Thanks for your story, Odie. I’ve seen ducklings making that sort of leap on a nature program by David Attenborough. It’s scary and amazing!
