Cheeky Cocky!

29 Jun

2013_1212imagefacebook0208Without fail, I always find the sight of Sulphur-crested Cockatoos to be captivating.

They are such cheeky and engaging characters who seem to be relishing their life in the Australian bush.

Isn’t it hard not to smile at them?

Time for rest…

This pair of Welcome Swallows have alighted on the pontoon ladder.

I often watch these tiny birds in flight, and marvel at their speed and agility.

Sweet feathered creatures…

Keeping watch…

What’s going on?

This Rainbow Lorikeet seems to be surveying the scene…

These parrots so often compete with the Cockatoos for the best nesting sites. Maybe there is something around that needs to be watched.

A Heron in a hurry…

Maybe the bracing breeze has stirred him, but this sprightly White-faced Heron surely has vigour in his stride.

Enjoy!

Let’s head for the mangroves…

I can image this pair of Silver Gulls deciding on this course of action.

Low tide reveals so much.

Who knows what they will discover?

Crimson Rosella

Over the last few days the Crimson Rosellas have been making their presence known to me.

Yesterday I narrowly missed some lovely photos of them as they searched for food in our Sleeping Hibiscus. Today, there they were, flying past me as I walked the track beside the river, but this time they landed in a nearby tree.

Enjoy this image of a glorious Crimson Rosella as it perched in a bushland park in suburban Sydney, Australia.

How Cute is This? Ducklings Galore…

Duck and Ducklings

Duck and Ducklings

How can I resist posting this?

Baby birds and animals have a magical appeal.

Few more than ducklings, I believe, and what sweeter sight is there than a band of newcomers finding their way in life?

Enjoy!

Glorious Hibiscus

Glorious Hibiscus

Even now in early winter, the Hibiscus are still in bloom.

This one grows in our front garden. It came from a cutting, many years ago. The parent plant has not survived, but this one soldiers on, giving liberally of its delightful flowers.

Though short-lived, each flower holds such beautiful colours and textures.

Sydney’s climate allows such an array of flora to grow and flourish.

Tide’s Out

Tide's Out

Tide’s Out

What a difference the tide makes!

At high tide, and especially at high King Tide, no one (birds included) can walk on this sand without getting wet. The water laps around every square millimetre.

Contrast this with low tide. Now in truth, this photograph doesn’t tell the full story, for a really low tide goes out far more. It becomes quite impossible for any human to swim. Simply not enough depth of water.

Interesting, isn’t it?

The Blue, Blue Mountains…

The Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains

Visitors to the Blue Mountains in N.S.W. Australia are frequently drawn to the lookouts. From such vantage points, the incredible blueness of the scene can be well appreciated.

Although by nature a water lover, I still appreciate the magnificence of this rugged place.
