Another Duck: A Male Chestnut Teal…

16 Jun

2008_03020036Readers of this blog will be aware of my fondness for ducks. I am crazy about them! They are arguably the cutest, most engaging of our feathered friends.

So it is with real delight that i present today’s offering: a Male Chestnut Teal.

Don’t you agree that their colours are delightful?

Enjoy!

An Aussie Raven Struts…

15 Jun

I wonder how many Australian Ravens are privileged enough to have in their territory a promenade that boasts delightful views of the Georges River?

This lucky fellow seems to be enjoying strutting along…

Australian Scene: On the Blue Mountains

A Mountain Scene

A Mountain Scene

Autumn is a lovely time to visit the Blue Mountains in N.S.W., Australia. The  cool  climate of the Mountains is particularly suited to the creation of beautifully-coloured leaves at this time of year. In this scene, many have already passed their prime, and fallen to create a natural carpet.

This photo was taken from one of the higher sites.

Enjoy!

Life on the edge…

This White-faced Heron is toeing the line.

These elegant birds are frequent visitors to the river baths where I swim, and seem to enjoy being in the line of the camera’s focus.

Sydney is home to so many beautifully- feathered creatures.

One of the attractions of living near a natural bushland park lies in the easy accessibility of beautiful scenery. The bark of this big tree is quite delightful to the eye, and who can resist the water views?

An ideal place for recreation…

On the Pontoon...

On the Pontoon…

I like to capture images of different bird species together. Sometimes it’s easy, but more often it isn’t.

Not so long ago my eyes were drawn to the pontoon in the local river baths. On it I saw a couple of Silver Gulls and a pair of Swallows. Being so tiny, the Swallows are hard to see, but they are there!

(This photo is definitely one to enlarge.)

As Evening Comes: An Australian Scene

As Evening Comes

As Evening Comes

As evening comes, the sky so often takes on such interesting colours and patterns. Though this is not the usual yellow-orange hued sky of sunset, it nevertheless has a special charm.

This photograph was taken just a block away from our home in suburban Sydney, N.S.W. Australia

Cause and Effect: A Kookaburra’s Tale

That was amazing!

That was amazing!

Where's the Drier?

Where’s the Drier?

It seems to me that kookaburras love bath-time. Quite often I see one splashing around in a water-bowl in the park.

But wetness cannot be a permanent state for them.

Hope you like these photos that show cause and effect. 🙂

Here I Am: A Noisy Miner Peers

Noisy Miner

Here I am!

The piercing gaze of this Noisy Miner arrests us.

Cute though they may appear, these birds are quite aggressive and highly territorial. At home I see them almost every morning, dive-bombing the cage of our pet Budgerigars Albert and Victoria.

This is a photo of one that inhabits the local park.

Windy Day: A Heron Faces the Waves

Windy Day: A Heron Carries On

Windy Day: A Heron Carries On

So often when I see the White-faced Herons in the local river baths, the weather is calm. Often their reflections are mirror-like.

But not on this day. No. The wind had picked up, bringing the waves along with it.

But this hungry White-faced Heron remained undeterred. Maybe he relishes a challenge.

What a pointed beak he has! I guess his prey  doesn’t stand a chance.
