Jake Taylor‘s review

Sep 27, 13
Read in September, 2013

Throughout the novella “Michaela Betrayed” and the other short stories that make up the rest of this entertaining book, there is an undercurrent of wisdom; folk wisdom at that. The reader is going to feel as though he or she can see what’s coming, perhaps it will remind him or her of their own past experiences or those of a friend, or of their own families and of the things that they went through when they were young and of all the twists of fate that accompanied them; however, the ends are always surprising, leaving you with a good aftertaste and a smile.
There are, of course, many palatable morsels throughout the book that Ms Sharp has incorporated, here’s a sample or two: “Life was wonderful: and love the pinnacle of happiness.” I’m sure this will remind you of someone special. “Were we both about to find that music is the food of love?” Do you remember past loves when hearing a song or another piece of music? If you do, it is because you are a romantic. On the other hand, I did mention wisdom above, so here’s a couple of morsels on that: “But life is about balance…” and “Things tend to fix themselves up when there is genuine love between the parties.” So true, so down to earth.
Very enjoyable light reading, five stars; Jake Taylor

A New Review : AMELIA’S CALL

28 Jul

I’m thoroughly delighted to announce a new review of Amelia’s Call has been posted on Amazon.

Thank you, Catrina!

Here it is!

4.0 out of 5 stars Choices faced July 27, 2013
By Catrina M. Rudd
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A new bride and new groom wear the rose colored glasses of love, lust, and excitement until the vows are done, and they believe the world is theirs. This is a story of what comes after ‘I do’.

Amelia faces hard choices that change her rose colored tint. Challenges force her to evaluate everything, as is the case for every marriage. Her decisions make or break their future, and leave the reader wondering in reflection.

Ms Sharp has really brought the reality of life to the forefront in a manner that is truly compelling and emotional. This is an excellent story, and I strongly suggest picking it up.

Boomer lit: Here’s an Extract!

10 Jul

The wonderful members of the Goodreads Boomer Lit Group are having a blog hop this Friday, and I’ve been invited to participate!

With six collections of Australian Short Stories from which to choose, my only problem was to decide which story to feature.

After some deliberation, I’ve selected ‘Au Revoir’ from my third title, ‘The Essence of Life and Love in Australia’.

Here’s a snippet.

AU REVOIR

My dear Pierre,

Surprised isn’t a strong enough word to describe my feelings when I first heard from you. So much has happened in the last forty-two years that I now look back on my young life as almost ethereal. Please don’t read into this any dismissal of my feelings towards you, but rather as an acknowledgement that, to me, it seems so very far away.

Glad to hear that you’ve had an interesting, fulfilling life, and that your late, darling wife brought you much happiness, though as you say, you never knew the patter of little feet. My daughter, Briony, proved a source of much pleasure, but occasional heartbreak, as Henry and i watched her grow up. Now a mother of three herself, she is a great pillar of support, especially now, since Henry’s death.

Are you enjoying this? Then why not treat yourself to a copy of this book.

A New Review: 25 Stories of Life and Love in Australia

28 May

One of the joys of being an author is the delight that a positive review of one’s work can bring.

So, today has become something of a red-letter day, with the publication of the review of my first title by  Goodreads Aussie readers moderator  Brenda Telford.

Here it is:

Read on May 26, 2013 — I own a copy
Once again, a delightful little book of short stories of romance, love and life by Margaret Sharp. They are extremely engaging, with each story heading in a different life direction, the characters are likeable, varying and at times, emotionally entangled.I particularly liked Family Values, where four-year-old Byron was being taken to see his grandparents on their farm. A first visit (that he can remember), and after being told numerous times to be on his best behaviour, he was understandably quite nervous. But young children will say and do what they want (mostly), and the outcome was well handled by his parents.I highly recommend Margaret’s work, especially to lovers of short stories, romance and the light easy read.
Thanks, Brenda! I’m ecstatic that you enjoyed it!
My work is available through Amazon and other distributors.

Stop press!

For three days only, my first anthology is available on Amazon Kindle at the special price of 99 cents!

Containing some real gems such as ‘A Question of Trust’ (a tale of an innocent girl and her secretive partner), ‘Fresh Pickings’ (a story of youthful passion versus parental control) and ‘Family Values’ ( a precocious child visiting his grandparents), this is a charming introduction to my other collections.

My first customer came back and bought three more copies!

Remember, this offer is strictly limited.

Why not get in now and sample my fiction? To date, this book has had nothing but 5 star reviews!

(Hope you’ve got a Kindle!)

Brenda’s Review: ‘Encore’

Yesterday, the lovely Brenda Telford: a moderator of the Goodreads group, Aussie Readers: posted the following review of my sixth collection of Short Stories.

Brenda‘s review

Read on March 27, 2013 — I own a copy
Encore by Margaret Lynette Sharp is an anthology of short romance stories. They are mostly based in and around Sydney, Australia, with the stories centering around young as well as older people. The variation of theme makes each story different, with most of them having a delightful little twist which more often than not made me smile. My favourite story was actually the first one, At Sixteen: Annie’s Story. With sixteen year old Annie living with her sister Sarah, and husband William because their parents are over in Paris, where they have been living and working for the past six months, she feels a little rebellious. Though Sarah feels a little nervous at the responsibility of being in charge of Annie, she feels Annie is a good girl. But when she finds Annie has been keeping company with an older man, she becomes worried. And as things escalate out of control, Sarah needs all her wiles about her to prevent a disaster in Annie’s life. Beautifully crafted with a clever twist at the end…There are some editing errors which I came across in the book, but they didn’t detract from my enjoyment. It’s a quick, easy read, with light entertainment throughout, one I would recommend to all romance lovers out there. Thanks to the author for my copy of this book to read and review.

A big ‘Thank you’ to Brenda for this review.

Readers, do you like romantic vignettes and Short Stories? Do you like to support Australian writers, particularly emerging ones?

If so, this could be the type of book you’d love to get to know. It’s available through Amazon, in both paperback and Kindle editions.
