Sharing good news…

On Saturday 7th September 2015, Ron and I attended the awards ceremony at Hurstville City Library (a major centre in suburban Sydney, Australia).

As one who had been short-listed, I admit to being a trifle nervous as the results were about to be announced.

So it was with much delight that I learned that my entry entitled ‘More Than a Mere Bagatelle’- a short story about a child, her family, and a piano – had been awarded a Second Prize in its section.

Even better than the ‘Highly Commended’ that ‘The One That Got Away’ earned in the previous year’s competition…

Are my literary fortunes on the rise?

News flash!

My short story, ‘The One That Got Away’, has been ‘Highly Commended’ in the Hurstville Discovery Writers Group 2014 competition : part of the Hurstville City Council Festival of Community Arts.

The competition had been open to adult  residents of Hurstville, Kogarah and Rockdale local government areas. For those unfamiliar, these councils are in suburban Sydney, N.S.W., Australia.

I’m thrilled!

I Really *Am* an Author…

8 Sep

I started writing my first book, ’25 Stories of Life and Love in Australia’, four years ago, next month. Naively, I thought it would be a one-off. 🙂

Eleven titles later, it’s still a nice feeling to be *reminded*, to have *concrete evidence*, that I *am* an author.

So, how proud I was when I visited Kogarah Library some months ago, to find my books on their shelves.

There, I knew it! I  really *am* an author. 🙂

Guess who?

Another Mystery: Birdwatchers, Help!

22 Apr

2013_0301imagefacebook0088Another mystery is on my hands.

Today I sorted through some photos and came across this.

Sure, it’s a parrot…But what is it?

I’m guessing it’s a Rainbow Lorikeet. Problem is, that it’s taken at an angle unfamiliar to me.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

The first three responses can chose from a pdf of ‘A Taste of Life and Love in Australia’ or ‘Long and Short Australian Stories’. Each of these titles contains a selection of romantic tales. Please state in your comment which title you would like.

So, if your penchant extends to both bird identification and Australian Short Stories, what are you waiting for?
