Chicki and the Sea-gulls

15 Sep

Once in a while we take Chicki to the sea-side. It’s quite a different experience  than that of her usual time by the river. Sure, there are Sea-gulls there, too, but only a handful. It must be quite a revelation to her to see the huge numbers that flock by the ocean.

Here she is at Sydney’s Ramsgate Beach. I wonder what she makes of it…

Chicki Sees the Sea: Cronulla Beach

18 Apr
Chicki sees the sea

Chicki sees the sea

It isn’t often that Chicki sees the sea. Though she regularly visits the river and is thoroughly familiar with the sight of large bodies of water, she must surely notice the difference when she’s taken to the ocean beaches.

The smells, the breeze, the roar of the sea: I wonder what she makes of them?

Another strand of her life of  adventure….

As Evening Falls: Ramsgate Beach.

6 Feb

The night is beginning to close in at Ramsgate Beach in New South Wales, Australia. The lengthening shadows are being replaced by a dim and gentle light along the shore.

What do you prefer: daybreak or nightfall?

I confess that I’m not an early bird, but on those few occasions I’ve witnessed first-hand the beginning of a new day, I’ve been overwhelmed by its beauty.

Yet, though this evening sky may be lacking the wonderful colours of a magnificent sunset, there’s still a lovely sense of peace.

Time and Tide…

8 Jan

They say time and tide waits for no man…

As one who swims in a tidal baths, I can vouch for this!

Certainly I prefer to take a dip in deep water, but sometimes I find that there’s enough water even when the tide is more than half way out.

Here’s a photo of the little beach besides the baths, taken at low tide.

Tide's out...

Tide’s out…

Watch this space, for later this week  I intend to show you just how this looks at the highest tide of the year. 🙂

Another Day, Another Beach…

29 Dec

Another day, another beach…

Is that what’s in Chicki’s mind?

The neighbours must surely hear her excited barks as she waits for the opening of our car door.

My guess is that this little beach and all its enticing smells are the highlight of her day.

All in a (dog) day’s work, and play!

Scavengers on the Shore…

23 Oct

Scavengers on the shore…

Attractive though they are, the seagull is noted for its voracious appetite. Who hasn’t been flocked by these hungry hoards at a picnic?

Nevertheless, don’t you think that these make a charming site on the shores of this  river beach?

Where the Seagulls Meet the Parrots….

Where the seagulls meet the parrots….

I can think of a few places where this occurs.

One of my most-loved destinations is Cook Park, which extends quite a way beside a number of beaches in Sydney. This shot was taken near Ramsgate Beach.

It’s quite commonplace here to witness seagulls mingling among the Corellas and Cockatoos.

Throw in some Ibis and Willie Wagtails and there you have it: bird-watchers’ delight….

Life’s a Beach…

14 Oct

Life’s a beach….

Is that what Chicki’s thinking?

Doesn’t she look relaxed as she takes in the beautiful surroundings?

It’s a far cry from the animal shelter where we first met, almost two years ago…..

Corellas by the Seaside!

17 Sep

As readers of this blog will know, I like to photograph birds.

Recently I visited Ramsgate Beach, one of Sydney’s beauty spots.

As is so often the case here, flocks of Corellas were making their presence felt, as these pictures show.

What a pretty sight….

Summer: At Last!

4 Apr

It may be April, but at last Sydney, Australia, is getting some beaut summer weather.

What a great day it’s been: warm and sunny. Sure, there’s some clouds around, but who cares? It feels like Summer…

And so it has, for the last week or so….Beach weather, picnic time: enjoy life!

The shops gearing up for the cold to come seem to mock what we have today! And, has it been a long time coming….

The summer we didn’t have is fading in our memories. The weekends spoiled by rain and cold are drifting into the far away.

We have TODAY! We have SUMMER!
