Peeking: A Crimson Rosella

No matter how often I spot them, I’m always excited to see these wonderful Crimson Rosellas. Because Ron and I live near a bushland park, we sometimes see these parrots in our own garden. How different is this to my childhood home, just a few miles from the city of Sydney, where the variety of wild birds was limited.

Enjoy this photo, taken in our local park!

What a Feast: A Crimson Rosella Contemplates Whilst Eating…

Crimson Rosella

What a feast! This Crimson Rosella has found for himself an endless supply of red berries!

Living as we do quite close to an Australian bushland park provides plenty of opportunity to see such beautiful native parrots literally in our front garden.

I guess it’s small wonder that Australia is known as the Land of Parrots!

Such strikingly-coloured parrots!

I see them now and again. They are less common the Rainbow Lorikeets, but arguably, equally beautiful.

Crimson Rosellas are sometimes seen on the ground, but more often perched in trees or shrubs. They are very agile in flight, too.

Here’s a photo of one as he (or she) finds something tasty to eat.

Enjoy!

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

With space on this blog running low, I’ve started another. Here’s the link.

Australia’s parrots are very appealing.

In our local park and surrounding areas, it isn’t uncommon to see these beautiful Crimson Rosellas. As you can see, they are richly  coloured.

One of the joys of living close to natural bushland in Sydney, N.S.W., Australia…

Crimson Rosellas are one of the most attractive of the local parrots. I see them often in the local park, and sometimes even in our front garden. Their colours are striking and rich.

Here is a photo taken in the local bushland.

Pretty Parrot…

Australia has been fittingly described as the Land of Parrots.

From cockatoos in white or black to Lorikeets and budgerigars: we have some extraordinarily engaging types.

Here’s a photograph I took of a Crimson Rosella as he was gathering nectar at the local park.

They’re Around: Crimson Rosellas

Over the last few days the Crimson Rosellas have been making their presence known to me.

Yesterday I narrowly missed some lovely photos of them as they searched for food in our Sleeping Hibiscus. Today, there they were, flying past me as I walked the track beside the river, but this time they landed in a nearby tree.

Enjoy this image of a glorious Crimson Rosella as it perched in a bushland park in suburban Sydney, Australia.

What’s That? A Crimson Rosella

25 May

As a child, I lived near the city. Although there was quite a large park nearby, never once did I see a parrot of any species flying free.

How different life is now! Living close to a large bushland area, parrots of many species have become an (almost) everyday sight.

Crimson Rosellas and King Parrots each have lots of beautiful red feathers, but seem to be less common (or much shyer) than the Rainbow Lorikeets, Sulphur-crested Cockatoos and Galahs. Therefore it’s quite a treat to spot them.

Here’s a shot of a Crimson Rosella perched in a tree in the park surrounding the river baths where I swim.

Enjoy!

A Sight for Sore Eyes: A Crimson Rosella

A sights for sore eyes: a Crimson Rosella.

These strikingly-coloured birds brighten my day.

I see them far less frequently than their beautiful relatives, the Rainbow Lorikeets, and whenever I do their presence cheers me.

Parrots are such interesting creatures.

What better way to observe them than in their natural environment?

There’s something wonderful about the sight of these magnificent parrots.

Their depth of colour in their feathers is extraordinary.

Small wonder that they often attract the attention of photographers!

Although officially common, I don’t see them every day, or even every week. But doesn’t this make their presence even more special?

Enjoy!
