See Sasha Perform!

23 Aug

One of Chicki’s  most talented friends is Sasha, the Frisbee-catching dog.

Frisbees have been a part of Sasha’s life for many, many years. She’s ten, now, but showing few signs of slowing down.

Here’s an action shot of her mid air!

Another Post from Chicki!

13 Jul

Hello to all my fans! I’m so happy to report that Mummy has finally yielded to my urgent demands and once again given me access to her blog. And about time, too! I’m sure all of you must have been out of sorts, so long have you been waiting and hoping for my triumphant return…

Doubtless you’ll be relieved to know that life has been treating me pretty well. I’ve made some new doggy friends on my daily walks to the park, as well as keeping up my acquaintance with old comrades such as Sasha, the frisbee-catching canine. Sasha thinks she’s a star performer: just quietly, she told me she loves an audience.

And well she might, for I also admit to liking to be the centre of attention ( as I so often am, doubtless due to my irresistible good looks and delightful manners).  I am, however, very choosy as to who I’ll allow to pat my gorgeous head, and Mummy dutifully adheres to my strict instructions on this matter. She knows just who’s in charge…

So now, I’ll bid you all adieu (that’s French, not Maltese, by the way). Until next time…

Looking Back…

2 Apr
In earlier days...

In earlier days…

Regular readers of this blog will know of our current little white dog, Chicki.

But she was not the first Maltese we have cared for. Looking back over some photographs, I came across this, taken in 2010. It shows Rosie and Trixie (and me) in our backyard. The little ones were seniors then, but pretty sprightly.

They were litter sisters, and their mum had been owned by my own sister. A real family connection…

Chicki’s Birthday

5 Oct

Tomorrow looks set to be a red-letter day.

It’s Chicki’s birthday!

Our little girl came into the world on October 6, 2010.

She settling down, I’m pleased to say: gaining in confidence all the time. And why shouldn’t she? She’s a real sweetie!

Happy Birthday, Chicki!

By The River : Chicki’s Destiny

30 Sep

I’m sure that Chicki loves to visit the river. Her excitement at seeing her car harness is overwhelming. She’s turned it into a game of ‘catch me if you can’, but all this is forgotten if she sees me pretending to go out the door without her. 🙂

She has several doggy friends down there, but even without their presence she still finds plenty of interesting sights and smells to keep her happy.

Third Time Lucky: It’s Chicki Again!

Sasha in action!

Sasha in action!

Hi, everyone!

Mummy tells me that *my* posts have been *loved*!

Between you and me, I think she’s jealous. 🙂

Nevertheless, I guess her sense of propriety has taken over, ’cause she has put me at the helm once again.

In the spirit of generosity I’ve decided to share the limelight with my second-best doggy friend, Sasha.

First, let me tell you I look up to Sasha. (Come to think of it, I look up to most of my furry friends.)

But Sasha is different.  She is– what’s the word?–gifted!

Seemingly without effort, she can do what I can only dream of: leap high into the air! And, simultaneously,  catch a flying saucer in her mouth!

She’s  whispered to me that she’s in training for the Canine Olympics.

Gold-medal material if ever I saw it!

Such agility! Such style!

Am I on sniffing terms with the Canine World Champion  Frisbee Catcher?

I’ll bet my last Schmacko on it!

Chicki’s Post Number Two

Chicki (that's me) waiting

Chicki (that’s me) waiting

That's Mummy and me by the river

That’s Mummy and me by the river

My Mummy is *so* lazy!

Once again, without a hint of warning, or even a treat to butter me up, she has handed me the computer and expects me to do *her* thing…

Well, I’ll spill the beans and *show* you what she does!

Picture this. It’s early morning, bright and clear. I’m supposed to be out and about with her: walking, sniffing, marking my spots, wagging my tail and saying ‘yap’ to my friends.  But all of a sudden, she stops paying attention to *me* and reaches for the big black box that lives in a pouch  hanging  around her neck. I think she calls it a camera.

Well, that’s  alright when she points it at me. In fact, I’m honoured: she adores me!

But lately she’s been *tying me up* and snapping away. And, would you believe it, *not at me*!

Sometimes she even leaves me to fend for myself for as long as *five* minutes! What an insult! What an Insult!

But, calm down… She *does* return…

And I suppose one must try to forgive and  forget. After all, we’re still together to  enjoy the rest of our day down by the river. Daddy is waiting for us in the shade of a gum-tree. 🙂

Another Day, Another Beach…

29 Dec

Another day, another beach…

Is that what’s in Chicki’s mind?

The neighbours must surely hear her excited barks as she waits for the opening of our car door.

My guess is that this little beach and all its enticing smells are the highlight of her day.

All in a (dog) day’s work, and play!

Life’s a Walk in the Park…

19 Dec

Life’s a walk in the park…

Most days, Chicki and I  stroll around this bushland track. Well, in truth, I stroll: Chicki stops every few yards to indulge in her favourite pastime, sniffing.

There seems to be an endless supply of wonderful smells around here, since it’s a favourite haunt of many dogs and their owners.

That’s Chicki’s pleasure. Mine is looking at the river, the bush, and the wildlife: especially the abundant birdlife.

It’s wonderful that Sydney suburbia still boasts lovely pockets of natural bushland.

Happy Birthday, Dear Chicki!

Chicki the birthday girl!

Chicki the birthday girl!

Today’s the day you came into this world. three years ago.

Destiny saw to it that you had to wait until you were thirteen months of age before we all became a family. But wasn’t the wait worthwhile?

Since that day nearly two years ago when our eyes first met and you so shyly backed away,  our lives have become entwined.

You’re with us nearly all the time: sitting beneath our chairs, snuggled up to us on our bed, walking in the park….You name it, we’re together.

Hope you like your new rope toy!

Happy Birthday, our sweet little girl! Enjoy being three!
