Ducks on the River

11 Oct

I guess that the local swimming baths is rather unique in more ways than one, for not only is it uncommonly large, it also attracts many sweet-looking birds. Not least among these are the ducks. These range in size from the large, Pacific Black Duck to the small Chestnut Teals, and in between fall the Australian Wood Ducks and Grey Teals.

Protecting Their Family: Ducks and Ducklings

Protecting their young: parent ducks.

Protecting their young: parent ducks.

There’s something special about the sight of parents with their offspring: particularly with something as sweet as ducks and ducklings.

This photo of  a family of Australian Wood Ducks was taken in the local swimming baths. It’s quite uncommon to see little ones, though their elders are a common sight.

Enjoy!

Heading for Home: Ducks and Ducklings

Heading for Home: Ducks and Ducklings

Fresh from their long paddle, this family of ducks is heading for home.

I wonder where it is? It isn’t in the local swimming baths: the place that they had ventured to!

The babies are strong swimmers and keep up well with their parents.

Enjoy!

Duck and ducklings

As a lover of ducks, it’s hardly surprising for me to say that one of my favourites sights is a family of ducks, swimming on the river.

The little group moves along with quite remarkable speed, considering the tiny webbed feet that the babies have.

Enjoy!

Focus On Birds: Pacific Black Ducks

Waddling Along

Although it’s fairly common for me to see a pair of these lovely ducks, a larger number is quite an event.

There are several types of ducks that inhabit the local river and its surrounds. The Pacific Black Ducks can be distinguished by the large size and iridescent wing feathers.

Enjoy!

The family

This is a rare and very welcome sight in the local river baths: a family of ducks.

Few sights are as sweet as this, I think.
