A Regal Duck

A Regal Duck (Real Name: Australian Woodland Duck)

A Regal Duck (Real Name: Australian Wood Duck)

A Regal Duck.

Okay, that isn’t it real name. But to my mind, it’s bearing warrants such a title.

I can’t resist taking multiple photographs of ducks, whenever they fly into the local swimming baths.

I hope you like this one of a female Australian Wood Duck as it struts on the river’s promenade.

Will I or Won’t I?

6 Aug

Will I or won’t I?

These ducks seem to be deliberating…

Is it time to take the plunge?

I’m pretty sure that the answer is — yes!

Feathered Friends

2 Aug

I love to capture photos of birds of different species together.

This was taken at the river where I swim in the warmer weather. It’s pretty uncommon to see a White-faced Heron mingling among ducks. 🙂

Enjoy!

Watching Over the Brood

9 Jul
A day's outing

A day’s outing

Is there anything nicer than watching Mum and Dad out for the day with their brood of youngsters?

Unfortunately for me, this is a rare sight. Although fully-grown ducks quite often grace with their presence the local swimming baths, a family of fluffy ducklings scarcely ever accompanies them.

So, whenever this opportunity presents itself, I reach for my camera and snap madly away…

Feed The Birds…Ducks and Sea-Gulls

20 Jun

Sometimes the temptation to feed the birds is just too great.

Experts in their field warn us of the folly of giving bread to ducks and other wild birds. Still, the occasional snack seems to do little  or no harm.

So once in a while, like others that I’ve seen, I give in to the temptation…

2008_03020036Readers of this blog will be aware of my fondness for ducks. I am crazy about them! They are arguably the cutest, most engaging of our feathered friends.

So it is with real delight that i present today’s offering: a Male Chestnut Teal.

Don’t you agree that their colours are delightful?

All in a Row: Ducks and Ducklings

31 May

One of my favourite sights is that of a family of ducks.

Now and then, a precious, feathered family finds its way into the river baths. I understand that there are breeding grounds not so very far away, and the babies’ tiny webbed feet are quite capable of making the distance.

Here is a photograph of such a group in action.

Wait for Me!

26 May
Wait for me!

Wait for me!

Wait for me!

I’m guessing that’s what a certain duck is thinking.

I watched them hurrying along the promenade, and quite suddenly fly off.

A delightful little family!

Ladies First!

24 May
Ladies, first!

Ladies  first!

Ladies  first!

Is that what this (arguably gallant) male duck is thinking?

His mate has seized the initiative, and the first tasty morsels. And he doesn’t seem too upset…

I wonder if there will be a family in the offing. 🙂

Just Paddling Along…

Wild ducks

Just paddling along…

What a delightful pair!

Now and then, wild ducks fly into the local swimming baths, stay for a short while, then off again…

Theirs is a life of freedom.
