The Flannel Flowers that grow in the local bushland park are still in bloom, and brighten the day for those who see them. They seem to particularly thrive beside the roadside – a bonus for those who travel through. With a speed limit of twenty kilometres an hour, there’s opportunity to see them, and reason to pause…

They’re Out! Flannel Flowers by the River!

18 Oct

I love to see the Flannel Flowers. Right now they’re in flower, and it’s just the beginning of their season. They’re fussy about where they’ll grow, but fortunately for me they have chosen spots by the river and near the road that we drive along to get to the water. Their simple, daisy-like flowers hold a special charm.

For the photo of these charming plants, please visit my other blog.

Here’s an Australian scene.

This shot was taken in the local bushland park in suburban Sydney, and shows plenty of Flannel Flowers in bloom.

They’re still out, months after they started. Simply beautiful!

Another Scene: The River and Flannel Flowers

The River and Flannel Flowers

The River and Flannel Flowers

Here we have a combination of two of my favourite sights: the river and Flannel Flowers.

Conditions permitting, I swim in these river baths most of the year. But the sight of the Flannel Flowers is not nearly so continuous. They flower only in the warmer weather.

Enjoy!

Flannel Flowers are one of the few native plants that have been honoured by their appearance on Australian postage stamps.

Their simple beauty is a delight. Currently, they are in flower in our local park, and have become one of the highlights of our going to visit.

Enjoy!

By the way, here’s a link to my third post on my new blog. Thanks go to those who visit!

Here’s More: Flannel Flowers

24 Nov

Right now, the Flannel Flowers are out in all their glory, and I see them every day in the local bushland park. A popular spot for them is beside the narrow roadway. There they can be enjoyed by those traveling through (at the twenty kilometre speed limit).

Enjoy!

Wildflowers of Australia: Flannel Flowers

Flannel Flowers in the breeze

Right now, the Flannel Flowers are in bloom. Every time I visit the local bushland park, I see their lovely, daisy-like flowers.

They seem to be very choosy in  where they will grow. The greatest number here are beside the road, though there a few clumps in the broader bushland. Their heads bob about in the breeze.

Enjoy!

The Last of the Flannel Flowers…

6 Apr

Just yesterday I spotted a clump; a clump of Flannel Flowers. I thought I’d seen the last of these pretty Australian wildflowers until after winter had been and gone, but there it was, soldiering on.

I must own up and say that I’ve cheated: this photograph was taken months ago when their display was in its prime. Nevertheless, the specimen I saw was a reasonable one though it did have fewer flowers.

The simple beauty of these flowers makes them one of my favourite blooms.

Flannel Flowers: Tapering Off?

Flannel Flowers

Flannel Flowers

In our local bushland park, the Flannel Flowers seem to be tapering off. No longer are the blooms so vigorous and plentiful. It seems as though the plants are soldiering on rather than bursting with exuberance.

Nevertheless, it’s been a very fine year for these icons of Australian flora. Who remembers the early Australian postage stamps that featured them? As a former philatelist, my hand goes up!

Scenic Australian Picture

Almost every day I take Chicki for a walk along the track beside the river. One day, not so long ago, i decided to climb up a little to capture this scene.

Luckily, Chicki co-operated. She remained quite calm while I secured her to the ground by putting one of my feet on her lead.

The result is this photograph. Where the bush meets the river.

I flatter myself that it’s quite lovely. Hope you agree!
