On The Edge: A Kookaburra Rests

Kookaburra

Kookaburras are pretty common in our local park. Even if I don’t see them, I usually hear their unmistakable laughter…

They have become quite used to humans, and some are so bold as to steal food from picnic tables…

Here’s a photo of one resting on the edge of a concrete slab in the park. Is he posing for the camera?

They’re Out : Beautiful Banksias

29 Mar
Banksia

Banksia

It’s lovely to walk (or drive) around our local park. Not only are all the beautiful native birds around, often nesting high in the gum-trees, but also the delightful Banksias are in flower.

I hope that you enjoy seeing this photo which was taken there.

Focus on Birds: Grey Butcherbird

8 Dec

Although officially these birds are classified as common, I don’t see them very often. Now and then, though, I spot one in the local park or occasionally in our own backyard.

Grey Butcherbirds somewhat resemble our Laughing Kookaburras, but the Butcherbirds are significantly smaller.

In this photo, the Butcherbird is surrounded by much greenery. It’s perched in a large Pittosporum , heavy with orange fruit.

Enjoy!

Focus on Birds: Crimson Rosella

22 Oct

Crimson Rosellas are one of the most attractive of the local parrots. I see them often in the local park, and sometimes even in our front garden. Their colours are striking and rich.

Here is a photo taken in the local bushland.

Enjoy!

Chicki in the Spring

12 Sep

Our Maltese Chicki likes nothing better than to visit our local park with us, and walk along the sand  — ever alert for new and exciting smells.

However, she doesn’t seem to mind giving this hobby a rest and trying her other penchant: posing.

Now that there are so many lovely Spring wildflowers in bloom, there’s an even sweeter background for her photograph.

Enjoy!
