Here's looking at you - a Rainbow Lorikeet Here’s looking at you – a Rainbow Lorikeet

Rainbow Lorikeets are often seen in our local park, and those of us who keep a camera on hand find them hard to resist.

Their colours are so bright and varied- small wonder that their name reflects this.

They’re friendly, too, and I often see them nibbling at the tidbits willingly supplied by picnickers.

Enjoy!

Male King Parrot

Although officially listed as common in our local park, these magnificent parrots make themselves scarce when I’m around.

So it is a real treat to be able to capture the image of this beautiful male.

Some say that their feathers lack the brilliance of some types of parrots, bur I still believe that they are exceptionally pretty birds.

Their pink and grey plumage is perfectly set off by the green, green grass.

Rainbow Lorikeets in the park

This morning, I saw a pair of these beautiful birds inspecting their nest. Rainbow Lorikeets must surely rank amongst the prettiest parrots, Australian or otherwise.

Such a joy to be able to see them in the wild, even in suburban Sydney.

The colours of the Rainbow Lorikeets are as spectacular as their name suggests. They catch my eye, whether in flight or at rest. Sometimes, a flock gathers around a picnic table and  entices people to throw  some crumbs in their direction.

Here is photo taken in the park near where Ron and I live.

Crimson Rosellas are one of the most attractive of the local parrots. I see them often in the local park, and sometimes even in our front garden. Their colours are striking and rich.

Here is a photo taken in the local bushland.

Enjoy!

Spring, and a Young Bird’s Fancy…

10 Sep

Here we are in early Spring, and the birds are making preparations. Prime home sites are in high demand. Sometimes, the Sulphur-crested Cockatoos take possession and start the process, only to find that smaller parrots are looking on with an eye to taking over.

Not so these Rainbow Lorikeets. This pair have found their own niche and are absorbed in making it feel like home… waiting, I suppose, for the sound of little cheeps. They don’t seem to mind the effort of raising their own little family.

Enjoy this little scene in the bush around Sydney, Australia.
