Here's looking at you - a Rainbow Lorikeet Here’s looking at you – a Rainbow Lorikeet

Rainbow Lorikeets are often seen in our local park, and those of us who keep a camera on hand find them hard to resist.

Their colours are so bright and varied- small wonder that their name reflects this.

They’re friendly, too, and I often see them nibbling at the tidbits willingly supplied by picnickers.

Rainbow Lorikeet

When it comes to stunning beauty of feathers, it’s hard to beat those of  the Rainbow Lorikeets. These parrots are pretty common in the local park and often venture into nearby gardens, especially those with natives such as Grevilleas and Flowering Gums in bloom.

On The Watch: A Rainbow Lorikeet

I’m happy to report that these Australian parrots are very common in our local park, and, I guess, second only to Sulphur-crested Cockatoos in number.

Their colours are magnificent. Small wonder they’re named ‘Rainbow Lorikeets’!

Peek-a-boo!

Is that in the mind of this Rainbow Lorikeet as it peeks out from behind a Banksia flower?

This is Australian bush at its engaging best!

The colours of the Rainbow Lorikeets are as spectacular as their name suggests. They catch my eye, whether in flight or at rest. Sometimes, a flock gathers around a picnic table and  entices people to throw  some crumbs in their direction.

Here is photo taken in the park near where Ron and I live.

As experienced photographers know, lighting is of critical significance in the making a photograph.

Generally, I prefer to photograph brightly-coloured birds when the sun is shining on their feathers.

Nevertheless, I think this picture provides an interesting contrast. I hope you agree. 🙂
