Today’s Visitor: A White-faced Heron

White-faced Heron

Most days I see water-birds on the river. They seem to especially drawn to the netted baths, where the crabs and other little treats reside.

Today I saw a White-faced Heron. As usual he was on his own: that is, until a pair of wild ducks swam past. But this was just for a fleeting moment, and before I knew it he was once again all alone.

Reflections of a White-faced Heron

Sometimes the river is so calm that it’s mirror-like. That’s when I love to take photos of the beautiful birds that call this place ‘home’.

My offering for today is a White-faced Heron: a tall, elegant creature that struts it stuff at low tide.

Enjoy!

A White-faced Heron Faces Grey Skies

Today I saw a White-faced Heron. It landed in the  swimming baths, but it couldn’t decide exactly where to settle. I watched it fly from one end of the riverside beach to the other, and back again. Such grace …

One of my most-loved hobbies is watching the birds that gather in the park.

While the Parrots are very engaging, I am equally happy to watch the water-birds as they go about their day to day activities.

Here is a scene taken at the local baths in suburban Sydney, Australia. It show a White-faced Heron that has strutted past a pair of Australian Wood Ducks .

I see the White-faced Herons almost every day. They are not at all camera-shy, and at times, seem actually to be posing.

They like to catch their  food at low tide, so it’s a safe bet that one will find them in the river shallows when the tide is well on the wane.

Enjoy!

White-faced Heron toeing the line

Life on the edge…

This White-faced Heron is toeing the line.

These elegant birds are frequent visitors to the river baths where I swim, and seem to enjoy being in the line of the camera’s focus.

Sydney is home to so many beautifully- feathered creatures.
