How sweet is this?

Sulphur-crested Cockatoos have a habit of bring  a smile to my face, but seldom more easily than in this photograph which was taken by the river in our local park.

The joys of living in the land of parrots…

Banksia

Banksia

It’s lovely to walk (or drive) around our local park. Not only are all the beautiful native birds around, often nesting high in the gum-trees, but also the delightful Banksias are in flower.

I hope that you enjoy seeing this photo which was taken there.

How Australian is this? A beautiful Sulphur-crested Cockatoo perched high in a native tree.

Those of us who take the time and opportunity to visit Australian bushland, very frequently are rewarded by sights such as this.

Nesting in the Park

Rainbow Lorikeets

Rainbow Lorikeets

Near the top of the hill that leads to the baths lives a grand old tree : a tree prized by both Cockatoos and Rainbow Lorikeets as a prime nesting site.

This time, the Lorikeets have taken possession of an antiquated section, and I’ve seen them every day this week, perched nearby or climbing in.

Looks as though an increase in their family in on its way!

Enjoy!

Caught in the Rain

Chicki in the rain

Chicki in the rain

Yesterday, both Chicki and I were caught in the rain.

Sydney’s seemingly endless summer suddenly disappeared, replaced by cool southerlies and showers.

Not to be deterred, I still managed my morning swim in the still-warm river.

Here’s Chicki in her wet weather gear. I wonder what she’s thinking?

Kookaburra

Kookaburras are a part of my life. Almost every morning I hear them laughing en mass while I’m still waking up. Most days I see them when I take Chicki to the park. Stunning!

Here’s a photo of a particularly handsome bird at rest.

Ducklings Galore

Ducklings

Duckling galore!

Not so many weeks ago, Ron and I attended a local festival. Not surprisingly, one of the most popular exhibits was the baby animal enclosure. Amongst the furry friends were groups of domestic farm birds: duckings and chickens.

Hardly surprising then that I snapped a photo or two of my favourites: baby ducklings.

Enjoy!

Thirsty Cocky

It’s hot outside, especially for autumn. Small wonder that this beautiful, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo is pausing for a drink.

He’s chosen to live in our local bushland park, where there are plenty of watering spots.

Enjoy!
